Divorce And Adultery
Sadly,
we live in a society in which marriage is viewed
as little more than a meaningless contract that
can be easily broken. We read of as many
divorces as we do marriages. This is not
the way God intended for this marriage bond to be
treated. Jesus said, in reference to the
marriage bond, "What therefore God hath
joined together, let not man put
asunder." Matthew 19:6. He also
spoke these words:
'"And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put
away his wife, except it be for fornication, and
shall marry another, committeth adultery: and who
so marrieth her which is put away doth commit
adultery." Matthew 19:9.
Man has not the right to break this sacred bond
of marriage. Only in the case of
fornication (i.e., marital unfaithfulness), or
death of one's spouse (Romans 7:2-3), can a
person be free to scripturally remarry.
Jesus tells us that one who puts away his wife
for any other reason and marries another, commits
adultery.
God meant for the marriage bond to be for a
lifetime. Sex outside of this sacred union
(which constitutes adultery and fornication), is
an abomination to Him. God is the creator
of the institution of marriage, and He alone has
the right to make the rules! "What God
has joined together, let not man put
asunder..."
